HALL OF FLAGS - March 16, 2017

Maine Adult Education will hold its annual Statehouse Day in the Hall of Flags on Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 8:30 until noon.  The event provides the many adult education programs in Maine an opportunity to visit their legislators.  Programs will have informational table displays in the Hall of Flags.  Several programs will be bringing groups of adult learners to visit sessions of the House and Senate, tour the Statehouse, and visit the Maine State Museum.

 At 11:30, a program in the State House Hall of Flags will highlight the many ways that Adult Education programs have enhanced the lives of participants.  Speakers will include Acting Commissioner of Education Robert G. Hasson, Jr. Ed.D., State Director of Adult Education, Gail Senese,Ph.D., MAEA President Nancy Allen, and students from area Adult Education programs.

Basic Excel - 6-week course designed for those with no previous experience with spreadsheets. Learn the basic functions and operations along with the toolbars and basic menu commands. Upon completion, students will be able to create and save workbooks, apply cell functions to spreadsheets and perform basic printing.  Students should be familiar with using personal computers, mouse and keyboard. You should be comfortable in the Windows environment and be able to use Windows to manage information on the computer. Specifically, you should be able to find documents on your computer and manage files and folders. To ensure your success, we recommend you first take our Very Basic Computers series. Grow Better Onions this Year!
In this class, we'll learn the choices to make to ensure success in your onion patch from choosing a variety to deciding whether to go with seed, bulb or seedling to plant. You can grow great onions! Instructor: David Fuller; Date: April 10;  Time:  6:00 - 8:00pm; Site: ALC; Fee: $5.00

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION - Continue Learning through Mt. Blue Adult & Community Ed

Did you make a New Year's Resolution to continue your education?  Whether "continue" means obtaining your high school diploma, preparing for a college or technical career, or even learning a new skill, Mt. Blue Adult and Community Education has something for you!  Call and pre-register for Orientation which will be held on January 26 from 9-3.  We will ask you to come in prior to that day to complete paperwork and do some placement testing in a quieter setting.  Then Orientation Day will be an informative and fun day...a time to meet other students, meet the staff and tour the facility, and meet with the instructors to set up classes.  Lunch will be available for all attendees.  The staff is looking forward to meeting you, so call today at 778-3460!

If you are interested in learning a new skill through our enrichment classes and are anxiously awaiting the Community Ed Course Catalog, it should be available in your mailbox and on line ( by the first week of February.  Those classes will begin after school vacation, or February 27.

CRMA Course at Mt. Blue Adult Ed - February 2017!

Health care professions are among the fastest growing occupations and you can be part of this trend in 2017!  Mt. Blue Adult Ed will be offering a CRMA course in February.  In 40 hours, you will learn the skills to become a CRMA, or Certified Residential Medication Aide and begin a new career.  The class will be held at the Mt. Blue Adult Ed Learning Center on the Mt. Blue High School Campus the week of February 20-24 from 8-5 every day.  The cost is $350.  Call Adult Ed at 778-3460 for more information or to register.

What will you do after the Fair is over?  Mt. Blue RSD Community Education is offering more than 60 classes including many new ones.  Did you know that Plants are Best for your health? Learn how to cook with whole plant-based foods to improve your health.  How would you like to learn Soap Making  or Using Essential Oils to avoid the additives of commercial products?  Are you a baby boomer who needs to Understand Medicare or want to be sure your driving skills are up to par by attending an interactive presentation on Keeping Your Keys?  

Of course, there are always the community favorites, including  Calligraphy, Tai Chi, Beekeeping, Fly Tying, Hunter Safety,  Ukulele, Cooking Classes for biscuits, donuts, pie crusts,  Wine Making, Fortune Telling, Photoshop AND MANY MORE.  Whatever your interests might be, we have something for you!

Classes begin September 26 so there is still time to register!
